Blog Tour: The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club by J.C. Isabella

Today's Blog Tour is Presented by Reading Addiction Blog Tours!

Photobucket

I will have a Review, Excerpt, and Giveaway. First let's get to know the author!

J.C. Isabella is the author of Chasing McCree and The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club. Ever since she discovered romance novels in high school, she has been a self proclaimed fan. This led to penning her first YA . When she isn't thinking up new recipes for the cookbook she hopes to one day write, she is brainstorming a new novel and listening to country music. She lives in the tropics of Florida with her big fat Italian family and ornery feline companion.

YA Romance

Welcome to the big leagues. To secrets and scandals. It's all about the game. Who's playing. Who's not. Who has no idea about the game. And...wait, what game are we playing?

I'll leave that for you to decide.

Where to start is the big question for Chloe Baker. How was she supposed to explain to Zack Warren that she started a fan club for him when she was a kid? It was just a game. A way to make friends and have fun. She never thought it would spiral out of control. And never. In a million, gazillion years, did she think it would follow her to college. How could she tell him her best friend Lana kept the club alive? That she had nothing to do with the craziness?

Chloe didn’t understand why she cared so much about Zack's opinion of her. She hated him. He hated her. They had very mutual feelings of dislike for each other. So he'd just hate her even more when or if he found out.

And that's totally fine...she thinks.

Zack Warren had a soft spot for Chloe Baker. He likes the way she walks. He likes the way she talks. If he was poetically inclined, he’d write a sonnet about her ass.

It's Zack’s junior year of college. He’s got things to worry about. Scouts from the major leagues. Baseball games. Contracts. Grades.... His father ran away to Vegas with Chloe's mother. He didn’t have time to worry about a girl. But he did. He worried about Chloe a lot, especially with that jerk Max sniffing around her. It's weird though, to like your stepsister, right?

But Zack could argue that he saw Chloe first. Way before his dad met her mom. He was too young to stake a claim. But he just doesn't care anymore.

He’s done playing games.

My Review:
I wish I had half stars because this really was a 4.5 for me!

This was my second book by J.C. Isabella and the 2nd home run for sure! She has a way of bringing to life situations that you would never imagine and consuming the reader by them! I mean a group of girls who have a fan club for one guy that lasts from 3rd grade all the way to college? Crazy, but it so works! I personally think Zack is the perfect person to be the subject of the fan club, I just wish it was for who he really was and not the skewed vision the girls all have of him.

Chloe and Zack both suffered from being victims of circumstance. Zack saw Chloe as untouchable and the one person who saw through him and tended to push her away for that reason. Chloe was in love with everything about Zack until the 5th grade when everything changed. Now she hates him, or does she just hate that she can't have them?

I enjoyed their banter and the progression of their relationship. JC Isabella is my new Go-To for feel good Young and Fresh Romance!

Chloe's POV

Nostalgia is for idiots and Zack Warren is trouble.
I knew it the first time I saw him in second grade. The boy had heartbreaker written all over him. He was two years older, wiser. He did a back flip off the jungle gym, landing right at my feet with a cocky grin, getting dirt all over my new pink Keds.
He didn’t apologize.
Instead he dropped a lizard on my head and called me prissy.
Despite the fact that we didn’t hit it off on day one, I harbored a huge crush on Zack, my first ever. In the third grade I started a club. Girls only. We dubbed it an unofficial club because we thought some powerful person, like Oprah, had to deem it official.
We have since discovered that is not true, but the name had a nice ring to it.
During our unofficial meets we talked about Zack, spied on him, and risked being found out on a regular basis. What a rush, seriously. It was going great. The group accepted new members, and we even drew up plans for a clubhouse. I invented a fun game and made new friends.
Then, when I was in the fifth grade, Zack stole the streamers off my bike.
I cried, and made the very rational decision to hate him until the end of time.
This effectively ended my reign as leader of The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club.

Chloe's POV
He let out a breath. “I like you Chloe.”
This was repetitive progress, but progress nonetheless.
“Thank you, and what exactly do you like about me?”
He was quiet for a minute. “For starters, you’re hot.”
I smacked his arm. “Be serious.”
“I am. Have you seen your ass?”
“Zackary Andrew Warren, if you don’t cut the crap, I’m going to throw you out of my room.” I crossed my arms and stared at the ceiling as best I could in the blackness.
“I’m sorry, Chloe Ann Baker.”
I glowered at the ceiling now. “Who told you my middle name?”
“A little birdie.” He whistled. “Chloe Ann. It’s kind of pretty.”
“I’m going to sleep, good night.”
“I’m not finished.”
“Fine.”
“You seem to really go for the Hallmark stuff. I’ll mush it up a bit, okay?” He cleared his throat. “When you are happy, I am happy. Your smile makes my heart flutter. And my tummy feels warm and gooey, like melted butter.”
“That’s it, that’s all you’ve got?”
“No, there’s more.” He continued. I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. “Oh, Chloe, dear Chloe, I love it when you are near. My heart goes pitter patter, and it makes me feel…”
“Queer?”
“No, that’s not what I was going for.”

*************************************************************************************
Zack's POV

“Horse races.” Vince said with enthusiasm, flipping through the TV channels. “Now that’s a sport.”
Never in my life, not once, had I ever resorted to violence to solve a problem — since I have reformed myself— except for pinning Max to the fence when he talked about Chloe.
Okay, so one time I’ve used physical methods. But I wouldn’t mind making it two. I imagined grabbing Vince by the back of his too big suit and kicking him out the front door. He was one of those people you wanted to swat, like an annoying little fly buzzing your sandwich. I wanted to chat with him about as much as I wanted a baseball to the crotch.
“Gambling’s not a sport.” I said under my breath. My dad, sitting on the couch next to me, nodded in agreement. Vince wasn’t scoring points with him either.
“So, Zack, tell me what you do.” Vince jingled. The man had on so much gold he actually jingled. I couldn’t believe he and Chloe were related for a second. His lady, Helga, boy was she a trip, too.
“I go to college.” I said, trying to keep my voice friendly.
I mean, what kind of question was that? I only had enough time for a job during the summer.
He nodded. “Yes, with Chloe. How old are you?”
“Twenty-one.”
Dad clapped me on the shoulder, “Zack’s into sports.”
“Really?” Vince didn’t seem impressed, more like bored. He uncrossed then re-crossed his legs so tightly, he either had to take a piss, or he’d been cursed with balls the size of grapes and a dick like a gherkin. It just wasn’t normal for a guy to do that.
“I play baseball,” I supplied. He didn’t react. Not even a raise of his greasy black eyebrows. What the hell, maybe I could get him interested in something else, “I practice martial arts too.”
His eyebrows shot up now. “Isn’t that dangerous?”
What a wiener.
This guy was a serious hot dog.

Review: Parallel by Claudia Lefeve

YA Time Travel
Date Published: 8/26/11

Destiny has a way of catching up.

Saddled with powers she doesn't understand, Etta Fleming's world is turned upside-down the day she meets Cooper Everett, the man who transports her to an alternate reality. A reality she was meant to be a part of.

One minute, she's an orphan living at Dominion House for Girls, an institution for delinquent foster kids, then finds herself attending the exclusive Dominion Hall Academy.

Plucked from the only world she's ever known, Etta now has to deal with an aunt she never knew, a boyfriend she doesn't know, and a best friend who can't know.

PARALLEL is the first book in the Travelers Series.

My Rating:

My Review:
I want to start off by saying that wow, if I was in her shoes, my head would have exploded from all of the craziness!

Etta is a girl who has pretty much had the short end of the stick her entire life. So when she goes from being in foster care to another reality where she is at the top of the social chain. There are twists and turns the entire way and it is definitely a fast paced read. The plot was very interesting and different.

From the beginning when Cooper is "explaining" things to her it was just hard to feel like I was getting enough information. I think the secrets and witholding of information was a little too much. It got to the point where I was doing so much guessing and trying to answer questions myself that I felt the author should have answered for us.

I found the relationship between Cooper and Etta a little frustrating at times. I understand why it was that way, but for me it wasn't what it could have been.

I am interested to see where book #2 takes us though!

Reviews vs. Blog Tours

I just wanted to give a note on the fact that lately my blog has been 90% Blog Tour stops and not very many additional reviews.

I am working on setting up more Non-Blog Tour Reviews over the weekend.

I do have over 50 books I have read and need to post reviews on, there has just been a lack of time to put these together lately.

I plan scheduling at least 1/4th of these over the weekend to run over the next couple of weeks. I do have Blog tours almost everyday for the next 2 months straigh, so my Blog will start have multiple posts a day!

Blog Tour: Last Wish of Summer by Phillip Overton

This Blog Tour is Presented by Reading Addiction Blog Tours

Young Adult Contemporary
Date Published: 1/18/12

As the sun prepares to rise on the last day of summer, three friends find themselves totally
unprepared for the events that are about to take place around them. For Tanya it is a chance to
find peace three years after losing her parents in an auto accident. Deciding she simply can’t
continue blaming God for her loss, she places a heartfelt poem in a bottle and throws it into
the sea on the eve of her birthday, granting her birthday wish to whoever finds it.

Early the next morning, her best friend Anton and his buddy Johnno find the bottle washed

up on the shore and set about putting it to the test. When Johnno falls for the new waitress at
the café where Tanya works, it stirs up feelings of jealousy in Tanya. Surely Johnno couldn’t
be the man that God had in mind for her? Suddenly, strange wishes are beginning to come
true, but is it all a coincidence? Or is God about to change people’s lives for the better?

Welcome to Kings Beach, where the forecast for the last day of summer promises to be hot,

hot, hot, with a definite change in the air.

Johnno grabbed the bottle and turned it upside down. The letter caught in its neck. Then with a bit of prying using his car key, he was able to gently pull the letter from the bottle and let it fall onto the table. It lay there wrapped only with a small hair ribbon tied in the centre. Anton reached across to untie it as Johnno stood the now empty bottle back in the centre of the table.

“Well here goes.” Anton said as he uncurled the two pages and held them up for his friend to see.

The pages were cream in color, decorated with a border of flowers entwined along the edge of each page in black ink. At the top of the first page before the letter began, was a small turquoise colored love heart someone had painted, again in what appeared to be nail polish. It left a slightly oily stain around the edges which only added to the letter’s charm. Around them, the air filled with the scent of women’s perfume that wafted up from the page. With their curiosity now firmly aroused, Anton and Johnno huddled in closely and began to read.

To whoever finds this,
If I’ve washed up on your distant shore,
From a land far over the sea.
Please tread carefully on the morning sand,
And know you’ve set me free.
Wrapped in my mother’s ribbon,
This letter is but a token.
A plead to let her see the world,
From a young heart torn and broken.
A turquoise heart that was my Aunt,
Left footprints in the sand.
Her magic just a memory,
You now hold in your hand.
So I light a candle for my Dad,
But this gift I give to you.
He always told me to make a wish,
So today may all yours come true.
It’s time to live, to find true love.
Before the winter’s scorn.
Somewhere it’s always summer,
May my true love’s arms be warm.

P.S. Please return me to the sea at sunset.

Phillip Overton’s writing has been compared to none other than Nicholas Sparks (http://

www.readerviews.com/ReviewOvertonAWalkBeforeSunrise.html), and his latest novel Last
Wish of Summer offers readers the perfect book to spend a summer’s day reading at the
beach. In a book that reminds us to be careful what we wish for, it manages to weave the
wholesome, virginal qualities of the main character Tanya with her band of misfit friends
in their pursuit of being able to reason why a washed up message in a bottle is somehow
granting their every wish come true. Often in a manner that is both coincidental and strangely
bizarre.

Just as a movie adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel will appeal to people of all ages, so too

will this story that follows the adventures of a group of twenty-something’s on the last day
of summer. The book not only manages to cut through any pre-conceived ideas we hold on
morals, body-image and social status, but delights in helping us discover what may already be
right under our nose to begin with.

BLOG TOUR: Phantom by Laura DeLuca

This Virtual Book Tour is Presented by Reading Addiction Blog Tours

Photobucket

I will have a Review, Excerpt, and Giveaway. First, let's get to know the Author!

Laura “Luna” DeLuca lives at the beautiful Jersey shore with her husband and four children. She loves writing in the young adult genre because it keeps her young at heart.  In addition to writing fiction, Laura is also the sole author of a popular review blog called New Age Mama. She is an active member of her local pagan community, and has been studying Wicca for close to eight years.

 YA Thriller
Date Published: 3/2012

The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.

Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist.

Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.

My Rating: 4.5 *'s

My Review:
OMG! Laura DeLuca does a phenomenal job of recreating the High School atmosphere! Even down to the auditioning process seemed spot on!

Rebecca's relationships with Tom and Justyn make for one heck of a Love Triangle!

The characters were all very well developed and multi-dimensional which is always very important.

The little things in this book go a long way! Be ready for a story that will take you by complete surprise and WOW, the ending! ; )

EXCERPT

“Lord…Justyn?”

It sounded more like a question than an audition call. Miss King looked slightly baffled as she scanned her paperwork and read the last name on her list of male candidates. Once she was certain she had read the name correctly, she called it out once more with a little more confidence. When she received no immediate response, she seemed ready to dismiss the whole thing as a joke. But then a strange black clad figure seemed to materialize in the corner of the stage, and with practiced grace, he moved towards the center of the platform and the waiting microphone.

“That’s Justyn Patko,” Carmen informed Rebecca matter-of-factly. Luckily her best friend was the queen of gossip. “He just moved here this year. From Vegas, I think. He’s in my Calculus class.”

“He’s a little creepy if you ask me,” Debbie whispered.

Creepy he might have been to some, with his black clothes trimmed with silver chains, black hair, and black fingernails. He was obviously Gothic to the core, a fashion statement Rebecca had always thought was secretly a cry for attention. But for Justyn, there seemed no other possibility. She couldn’t imagine the darkly mysterious figure dressed in earth tones or preppy, button-down shirts. They would have clashed with his dark eyes and pale skin. She had seen him in the hallway a few times, but they didn’t share any classes together, so Rebecca had never really taken the time to study him before. Despite his odd style, there was something strangely appealing about Justyn. In his own way, he was just as handsome as Tom.

The orchestra tuned for its virtuoso, and Justyn stood ready. But no one else was ready for the magical performance he began. Beside her, Carmen was rambling on about something mundane. Rebecca elbowed her to silence so she could listen to the perfectly thrilling tenor. As she listened to the song unfold, the world around her started to slip away. Gone was the high school auditorium. Gone were the rowdy teenagers. The Gothic stranger on the stage had become the embodiment of Erik, and Rebecca watched him in all his dark glory, belting out his tormented love through the words of his song. And she was as breathless with wonder as Christine herself must have been when the masked stranger serenaded her in the candlelit labyrinth of the opera house. In that moment, Justyn wasn’t just portraying the phantom. Justyn was the phantom.

“Let the music touch your soul.
Let the darkness make you whole.
Do not fear what is unknown.
Your true path has now been shown.
Listen to the words I sing.
Embrace the peace that night will bring.”

As he continued to sing in his deep but somehow angelic voice, Rebecca found that she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. With every line, her heart began to beat faster.  She truly felt the arms of night wrapping her in a warm embrace. She could almost feel the hands of the phantom glide along her body as the words poured forth. The music caressed her. It possessed her—mind, body and soul. Each word left her longing, yearning for more.

She was gawking so obviously, it was hardly surprising when Justyn felt her eyes on him and steadily met her gaze. She realized her mouth was hanging open in stunned awe, and she quickly snapped it shut. His lips moved into just a small hint of a smile. He never took his eyes off her while he sang the final verse, making her cheeks flush to the point that she felt almost feverish. But it wasn’t embarrassment but excitement, arousal even, which was sending her mind spinning in so many directions.

When the song was over, and Rebecca had recovered just a hint of her composure, she couldn’t help but burst into a healthy round of applause. A few scattered people joined in, including Debbie and Carmen after she nudged them in the ribs. But only Miss King seemed to truly appreciate the brilliance of his talent as much as Rebecca did.

“That was amazing, Justyn!” the teacher gushed.

“Lord Justyn,” he corrected as he stepped down from the stage.

A few others complimented him as well, but he took in all in stride. In fact, his serious expression never faltered as he stepped down from the stage. He seemed almost bored, like it was all he could do to hold back a yawn, despite the smiles and words of encouragement.

But not everyone in the crowd was pleased as Justyn glided down the aisle, so ethereal in his dark garments that he still resonated the spirit of the Opera Ghost. Miss King might have been excited about the newest male addition to her cast after being limited for many years, but Tom and his group of boisterous companions glared at him as he passed them by.  Jay sneered and tossed a balled up piece of paper in Justyn’s direction, but the Goth was quick, and caught it in his hand without missing a beat.

“I think you dropped something,” he said.

His speaking voice was no less melodic than his singing voice, but something about his tone made Rebecca shiver. He tossed the paper back at Jay, who was nowhere near as coordinated as Justyn. He practically fell off his seat in his efforts to catch it.

“Hey vampire,” Tom called when Justyn went to walk away. “Are you sure you can handle the competition?”

Justyn smiled, a cool, sarcastic half-smile, and crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you?”

Miss King didn’t notice the short confrontation, and Justyn vanished from the auditorium as quickly and mysteriously as he had appeared. Only Rebecca had noticed the very real tension between the two boys. She wondered if it was a bad omen for them to start off the production with hard feelings and envy. That could only lead to trouble. The kind of trouble that could end with someone getting hurt.  The kind of trouble that Rebecca would do whatever it took to avoid.
