Author Spotlight: Michelle Clay

Michelle Clay
Author of Bitter Black Kiss

Author Bio:
Even as a child, Michelle Clay wasn't afraid of the things that
went bump in the night. In fact, the thought of a world where
werewolves roamed and Dracula reigned king may seem like
an eldritch dream to most, but was exciting to Michelle. Instead
of turning on a light for comfort, she reveled in the dark, imagining
what was roaming the night and frightening those who didn't truly
appreciate how interesting the supernatural really were.
Nowadays, her visions continuously take shape as she brings life
to the worlds she has imagined since childhood. The wild
imaginings that often got Michelle out of, or more often into,
trouble as a young girl have informed and enriched her
storytelling as an adult, bringing a fresh new voice to the
paranormal romance genre.

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want
Readers to Grasp?

No matter the circumstances… true love will find a way
to exist.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging
 in your writing?

Hmm, synopsis writing is the bane of my existence. I
can write you an entire novel, just don’t ask me to
sum it up in a few pages! The only other bothersome
challenge is when I am not at the computer and snippets
of conversation or a fantastic scene is playing out in my
head and I have no way of writing or recording it.

How many books have you written and which
is your favorite?

Three. Bitter Black Kiss will always have a special
place in my heart, it’s kind of like my first baby!
I’ve got another novel, Of a Dark Nature, due out
later this year. Third and finally, I’ve just finished
another novel that I’m polishing up and getting
ready to send out. J

If you had the chance to cast your main character
from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

Funny you should ask. A girlfriend and I recently spent
time “casting” the entire book. We decided
Amber Heard might make a good Nicole. Brody wasn’t
as easy to pin down. At the moment, I’m really liking
Taylor Kitsch for that part. Gabriel Aubry would also
make an excellent Brody, but he’s a model so… *shrug*

When did you begin writing?

I began writing angst-filled poems and short stories in jr. high.
By the time I was in high school, I had already written
my first novella.

How long did it take to complete your first book?

Bitter Black Kiss took about 9 months to complete.

Did you have an author who inspired you to
become a writer?

I grew up in a house full of readers and everyone read
something different. My inspirations varied between
Stephen King, Piers Anthony and Nora Roberts.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

Seeing it all come together to form something real
and solid. The feeling of holding an actual book in
your hands and knowing that you wrote it, that’s magic.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

Sexy, dark, gritty and dangerous.

Can you share a little bit about your current
work or what is in the future for your writing?

I’d love to! My newest novel, Of a Dark Nature
will release later this year from Crescent Moon Press.

With just one touch, Emily Cross can read the memories
of the deceased. Working at a funeral home might not be the
logical choice, but for Emily, it is a natural one. When she and
her boss are attacked, the creatures she once thought were
only folklore become all too real. Just as she’s about to be
drained of life, the cadaver on the next table rises to fight them
off. Feeling a connection to the man who saved her life, she
makes it her mission to find him. As she delves deeper, she
discovers a dark underworld full of vampires, magic and
shape shifters.
Marcus Dane doesn’t know how he ended up in a mortuary.
As an Enforcer for the Mistress of the City, he has been following
leads regarding a powerful witch who wants to exterminate
his blood-clan. His fear that the witch has recruited some of his
fellow Enforcers is confirmed and now it looks as though the witch
will make her threats real. He counts himself lucky to escape
the mortician, because someone in the mortuary business
disposes of vampires who are unfortunate enough to cross his table.
When it all comes down to it, Emily now has a vampire she’s
romantically entangled with, a very angry Mistress who doesn’t
like other people playing with her toys, and an incredibly
powerful witch who realizes killing Emily is the gateway to
what she wants. By the end, Emily will have to figure out who
she can trust, who she has to align with even if she doesn’t trust
them, and just who has the darkest nature of all.
